About me
About me
I am a Piano teacher and pianist based in the UK. I specialise in giving online lessons to pianists from all over Britain and overseas and my teaching has a strong focus on technical retraining, receiving years of tuition from Penelope Roskell -founder of the Roskell Academy and author of “The Complete Pianist”. Subsequently, I am certified teacher of the Roskell method for beginners, intermediate and advanced players.
Over 10 years ago, I suffered from a playing related RSI injury. This challenging time forced me to rethink how I approached piano playing, leading to years of study in the field of movement retraining such as the Alexander Technique, Body Mapping and the Roskell method. Now fully recovered, I have a special interest in working with pianists who are experiencing tension, pain and discomfort on their recovery pathway. I am currently in training to become the first Licensed Body Mapping Educator (LBME) in the UK under the tutelage of Bridget Jankowski author of the newly revised “What Every Musician Needs to Know about the Body”. I hold the Licentiate of Trinity College London Diploma (LTCL) in Piano Performance with distinction. I have received tuition from Judith Kleinman in Alexander Technique.
About the lessons-
- Key concepts from the Complete Pianist such as the “Nimble finger”, “Singing finger”, “The Splay” and “The Parachute touch” are taught so that they are embedded into your playing.
- We will draw upon exercises from Essential Piano Technique series, particularly Levels 2-3.
- We will consider how to incorporate mental practice into your daily practice.
- I have an in-depth knowledge of Body Mapping. This can help to improve our coordination at our instrument. Discussing and uncovering the truth about the structure, function and size of our bodies (in particularly for pianists the arm structure such as the wrist, forearm and shoulder area) can dramatically improve the quality of our movement at the piano.
- In the lesson, we can correct faulty body maps by studying, colouring and tracing anatomical images, videos and models, movement explorations, watching and recording yourself and observing great performers.
-We will explore a wide range of classical piano repertoire.
The lessons are offered on a “pay as you go” basis. They typically last for 30,45 or 60 minutes long. Frequency of lessons is entirely up to the student, however, for quickest progress weekly/bi-weekly lessons are recommended.
I offer an initial free 30 minute consultation lesson.
